For Those Who Are Interested In Coetzee ONLY

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog for ENGL 620JMC (J.M. Coetzee) at CalState Northridge-

This blog will be dedicated to my studies on J.M. Coetzee, including discourse related to his texts, the historical contexts related to his texts, and critical and literary theory associated with his work. Most of the posts will be in regards to specific texts, such as critical reads of some of his novels. Other posts may consist of work related to Coetzee, while also highlighting material that has not been reviewed as much, such as his current activity, commenting on other work dedicated to Coetzee, and secondary information that helps bring a different perspective to work in this field.

A Nobel Laureate, a witness to apartheid, a person with the vision to to see his world for what it is and having the gift to articulate it so well, John Maxwell Coetzee serves as a poetic critic for the current state of our world. Still alive and still producing work, studying his work constantly develops, allowing the range of followers to become more diverse. As it states in his biography on the Nobel Prize website, his perspective of the world and everything around him illuminates that which “portrays the surprising role of the outsider”. As an student of English Literature with a concentration on American writers, his work will both bring out that which has been casted out, as well as bring a nuanced approach to something so foreign.

Along with studying the works of J.M. Coetzee, I will try to explore new ideas and opinions that come along with the studies of J.M. Coetzee and his work. Apartheid, American/South African relations, feminists studies, post-colonial theory, and other related fields are just some of the studies that are associated with Coetzee, and I hope to explore anything else that will build our understanding of his work. Please feel free to comment, contribute, or just look around and find something you will like.
